Irwin District Museum and Research Centre
Free Entry November 14 2011 -10 Year Celebration
Visit the Irwin District Museum for free entry on November 14 10am-12 noon to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the museum.
The IDHS AGM will commence at 1pm followed by an ordinary meeting.
New members and visitors are welcome to attend.
Irwin District Museum Celebrates 10 Years
The Hon. Kim Chance opened the Irwin District Museum on 14 November 2001. Since then the team of volunteers has worked to update and improve many of the displays. With the addition of the rear shed a couple of years later, the display area was again increased to allow the display of many tools and blacksmithing equipment which had remained in storage for many years.
As the museum expanded, many donated items and photographs have been received and catologued by the volunteers.
Their work has been recognised by the numerous awards and compliments from visitors.
Visitor numbers have steadliy increased to over 1000 per annum.
The Society is grateful for the support of the Irwin community and the Irwin Shire Council and Tourist Information Centre.
Annual Easter Market Day
Stall holders are invited to register for Dongara's most successful mareket, space is limited so make an early booking.
Visitors spend the morning at the markets before heading to the races.
Lots of things to see, do and buy from local and regional artists and craft persons and growers.
This is the major fund raising event for the Society and all monies raised from the gold coin entry charge are used to support and improve the museum displays. Entry to the museum is free during the market.
The Society has been hosting the Easter Market since 1984.
